Dzongkha (language of the fort) Is Bhutan’s national language. While it’s spoken mainly, the country also speaks about 13 other languages including English and Indian. English is used in the school system so the children learn it at an early age. Indian is learned thru the popularity/influence of Bollywood. Dzongkha and English are the two most popular and most signs have both languages featured.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for pointing this out. Language barriers can be so hard to overcome, and it’s something I am a bit anxious about on our trip. It is relieving to know, especially about the signs. I am going to try to learn the list of Vietnamese greetings that Dr. Pham handed out to us in our packet, but I know my enunciation will be off! It’s also nice to note we will have a local guide available as well in Bhutan.
Good post,
Elliot
