This post is about the research I found on the Wat Xieng Thong that we will be visiting on May 30th. The Wat Xieng Thong is one of Laos most beautiful and richly decorated temples, the temple is decorated with elaborate mosaic patterns, wall carvings, rare Buddhist deities, and includes a beautiful tree of life glass montage. The temple was first built in 1559 on the banks of the Mekong river in Laos, by King Setthathirath. One of unique artifacts the Wat Xieng Thong Temple has is a funeral carriage, the carriage is located in a building decorated with teak wood carvings painted a golden color with amazing detail. When visiting this temple it is very important to dress respectfully, men should wear long pants and women should also wear pants or a skirt. Also when entering the temple its very important for everyone to be barefoot. I am super excited to visit this unique, historical landmark that has such a powerful background and has so much history behind it, it really is going to be a once in a life time experience for me to witness these beautiful temples.
