Cu Chi Tunnels have just been recently added to the itinerary so I thought I should educate myself on these interesting tunnels. In the district of Cu Chi, 1000 miles of tunnels were dug by the Viet Cong in 1940, but the tunnels were primarily used during the Vietnam War. The tunnels were a safe place for soldiers and used to house troops, transport communications and supplies, and lay booby traps. “In heavily bombed areas, people spent much of their life underground, and the Cu Chi tunnels grew to house entire underground villages, in effect, with living quarters, kitchens, ordnance factories, hospitals and bomb shelters. In some areas there were even large theaters and music halls to provide diversion for the troops” (History.com). These facts are crazy to me that these people made the tunnels so innovated and were stainable for living. Today Cu Chi Tunnels is a tourist attraction, at this cite we will be crawling through the tunnels. I am curious to see if there is anything in the tunnels. I really just cant believe that the Vietnamese made these tunnels a place for so many people to live, and incorporated hospitals and factories.
