I did not realize how much there is to learn about culture. I always knew that it was a part of a country based off of their history and religion, but I had no idea it was so in depth. We first learned how birth control has had a major impact in the world, effecting each culture differently. For example, Roman Catholics did not support the pill, while others were excited for women to start working and delay child bearing.
When they started talking about geography, I thought it was very interesting how innovation spread east to west much faster than north to south. I have never heard that concept before, but if we were to look at it in today’s terms it makes sense. The COVID-19 started in China, and the next major country to have it was Italy, then the United States began to shut down. However, I remember thinking when they were going to cancel our trip because China is closer to the Philippines and Vietnam than we are, yet those countries are south while we are east/west of China.
