Fall is in full swing and it’s October, so we all know what that means! Late nights spent at a dimly lit desk; sipping hot coffee and studying for midterms as Halloween movies play quietly on the television. Listen, I enjoy these cozy scenarios as much as the next person, but how about when you’re not there? Do you realize how much energy you’re still using? Use these 7 tips to cut down on energy usage!
Turn off the lights
What’s the point of leaving the lights on when you’re not in the room? Save some energy and flip those switches, people!
Use power strips with switches
Leaving appliances plugged into the wall can still quietly drain electricity! Invest in a power strip with a switch so you don’t have to go searching for outlets. With one press all of your appliances can be turned off. No worries!
Close curtains, doors, and windows
Closing curtains, doors, and windows can help keep the AC in. It can also help keep the heat in for those cold winter days. Easy as that!
Invest in blankets to cut down heater use
Or if you’re a DIY expert, you can take some time during fall break and make some of your own! You can also support your local thrift stores by purchasing some large cozy sweaters!
Classes off campus? Ride your bike!
Get some extra exercise and ride to class. Also consider walking or at the very least you can carpool.
