Updating your fall wardrobe doesn’t have to drain your bank account and it can even be sustainable!
Fall is underway. The leaves are changing, the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are getting cooler. Sweaters and jackets are becoming a necessity and if you, like many of us, find yourself lamenting the condition of last year’s clothes or even just the lack of variety you have, you may find yourself on the market for warmer clothes. Shopping on a budget can be challenging, but being smart about it can help! Here are a few pointers to get stocked up sustainably (for the environment, the local economy and your bank account):
- Check out social media groups that were created to sell used goods
- Buying clothing from local residents helps boost the local economy and can save you a ton of money when compared to buying new.
- Go thrifting
- Thrift stores often support charitable organizations, so your purchases can save you money while supporting a worthy cause. For the best deals, check out thrift store sale schedules where available. For extra savings (and sustainability), check out locally owned stores that are not part of a larger chain. This helps support the local economy and can often support local social causes.
- Look for yard sales
- Yard sales often have the best deals around! Plus, at a yard sale, you are buying from local residents who directly support the local economy.
While buying used clothes may not seem ideal to some, it is a fantastic way to get unique pieces, and you never know how great of a bargain you might come across.
