Meet Robert-Thomas Gumersell, a transfer student from Springfield, MO!

Robert-Thomas transferred to Missouri State University from Ozarks Tech. Robert-Thomas is pursuing the Communication Studies major at Missouri State University.

When asked why Robert-Thomas chose to transfer to Missouri State University, Robert-Thomas said, “I chose to transfer to Missouri State because of the affordability, as well as the simple transfer process.”

Robert-Thomas says that adjusting to a new learning management system was a challenging aspect to the transfer process. “Switching over to Brightspace from Canvas was a bit challenging, but since the college recently switched, I feel like I’m about on the same page as everyone else.”

Robert-Thomas’s advice for a new transfer student would be to, “get involved on campus. It might seem a bit scary at first, but there’s so many opportunities that can come from it. Even though Missouri State is the 2^nd largest university in the state of Missouri, it’s surprisingly easy to make new friends and run into people you know.” Robert-Thomas says that getting involved as been the most enjoyable part of his transfer experience, and he has gotten involved with Student Government Association and the Student Affairs Advisory Board.

Robert-Thomas would like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to the people who have supported Robert-Thomas the most during the transfer process at Missouri State. “The first is 2024-2025 Student Body President, Tamia Shiele. Despite the fact that I hadn’t even started classes when we met on campus, she saw enough in me to appoint me to a cabinet level position with S.G.A. Because of her, I’ve gotten to meet so many new people and make new friends. The second is Campbell Keele, my transfer advisor. As my transfer advisor, she made me feel very welcome transferring to Missouri State. She also helped me with reaching out to candidates for the Voter Fair event held on Oct. 2^nd this year.”

Meet Lyndsey Conley, a transfer student from Parkville, MO!

Lyndsey transferred to Missouri State University from Butler Community College. Lyndsey is pursuing the Marketing/Marketing Research program at Missouri State University.

When asked why Lyndsey chose to transfer to Missouri State University, Lyndsey said MSU’s affordability and location (it’s “not too far from home”) played into her decision to attend Missouri State.

Lyndsey says, “being on a big campus with so many people” has been the most challenging part of the transfer experience, but “the sporting events and other student activities” have been incredibly enjoyable.

Lyndsey’s advice for a new transfer student would be to, “get involved as soon as possible – it’s how you will meet people!”

Meet Kallie Clevenger, a transfer student from Blue Springs, MO!

Kallie transferred to Missouri State University from Culver-Stockton College. Kallie is pursuing the Design/Graphic Design program at Missouri State University.

When asked why Kallie chose to transfer to Missouri State University, Kallie said, “I was looking for a school that had a good art department and I could also do photography and more opportunities.”

Kallie says that getting to know people has been the most challenging part of the transfer experience. Kallie shares, “coming from a college with 1,500 total undergraduates to MSU – where’s there’s a lot of people – it’s hard to find people I get along with and hang out with.” Kallie says that the campus life has been the most enjoyable part of the transfer experience, saying, “there are different events and things happening every day.”

Kallie’s advice for a new transfer student would be, “Don’t be afraid to get out there and just make the most of it!”

Kallie would like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to the people who have supported Kallie the most during the transfer process at Missouri State, “My parents, and a very close family friend who lives in Springfield”.

Meet Olivia Marchizza, a transfer student from Springfield, IL!

Olivia transferred to Missouri State University from Lincoln Land Community College. Olivia is pursuing the Exercise Science major at Missouri State University.

When asked why Olivia chose to transfer to Missouri State University, Olivia said, “The reputation of the McQueary College of Health and Human Services and the activities on campus and in the community attracted me to Missouri State.”

Olivia says that the transition from one institution to another has been challenging because, “the college experience and lifestyle here are much different than my experience at my community college.” While that adjustment has been challenging, Olivia has, “enjoyed meeting new friends and experiencing the community of Springfield and MSU.”

Olivia’s advice for a new transfer student would be to, “pay close attention to how your credits transfer and apply to your major to ensure you get the most out of the education you’ve already earned.”

Olivia would like to take this opportunity give a shout-out to the people who have supported Olivia the most during the transfer process at Missouri State – Olivia’s family and friends. Olivia says, “My family and friends have been a reliable support system for me in this transition which has been very helpful to lean on!”

Meet Cas Flores, a transfer student from Denver, CO!

Cas transferred to Missouri State University from Wichita State University. Cas is pursuing the Psychology program at Missouri State University.

When asked why Cas chose to transfer to Missouri State University, Cas said that the Psychology and Criminology programs influenced the decision to transfer, along with the number and types of courses offered.

Cas says, “moving to a new state and city, without family and friends” has been the most challenging part of transferring to Missouri State. Cas says, “the classes and the environment at MSU” have been the most enjoyable part of the transfer experience.

Cas’s advice for a new transfer student would be to not, “hesitate to ask questions and advocate for yourself when you hit a dead end. Moving can be intimidating and is often a completely new experience for many.”

Cas would like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to the people who have supported Cas the most during the transfer process at Missouri State – Cas’s brother, Joshua, who “helped me physically move”, Dr. Lewis, “for introducing me to resources for the Native Community”, and Judi M., “who has provided sound advice during my work-study in TRIO/Access & Success”.
