Meet Kade Meinke, a transfer student from Platte City, MO!
Kade transferred to Missouri State University from Pittsburgh State University. Kade is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biology/Microbiology & Biotechnology.
When asked about the decision to transfer to Missouri State, Kade said, “I chose Missouri State because of the research opportunities, the resources and support available to students, and the opportunities that come with being on a bigger campus. I was especially excited about the chance to get involved in undergraduate research.” Kade has already had an opportunity to experience what he was most excited about, as Kade is now involved in undergraduate research in Dr. Kim’s lab!
As Kade further reflected on the transfer experience, Kade shared some of the challenges (“Learning how to use Brightspace and meeting new people”) and highlights (“Living in a new city and getting to have so many new experiences”) he’s experienced so far.
Kade also shared advice for a new transfer student, which is to, “Introduce yourself to your professors and make a good first impression. Let them know that you just transferred to Missouri State and that you’re excited to be here. Also, don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to the people you sit next to in class. Those can be some of the first friends you make.”
Kade would like to take this opportunity to thank the individuals who have made the most impact on his transfer experience: 1) Angela Plank (“Angela Plank was the first faculty member I ever talked to from Missouri State, and she made me feel extremely welcome. After my first advising meeting with her, when I was still considering transferring, I knew Missouri State was the place for me. She has been extremely helpful in getting me involved right away”), and 2) Dr. Kim (“He was extremely welcoming when I first got here and gave me the opportunity to jump into a research lab right away. This was something I was really looking forward to at Missouri State, so it really meant a lot to me.”)
