Throughout the summer, the Brick City Gallery will feature sabbatical work by art and design professors Vonda Yarberry and Sharon Harper. Each spent several months in artist-in-residency programs developing their exhibits.
Yarberry blends old and new technology
Yarberry, who also oversees the electronic arts’ computer animation program, recently took a year-long sabbatical to participate in two competitive artist-in-residency programs. She came away from the experience with an artful look at old and new technology, blending the two in steampunk style.
Many of Yarberry’s pieces juxtapose images on a screen with the raw wiring hanging down from the device. She says her creative research is “alluding to how the human body works – the messiness of that and the tangledness of that.”
Harper creates a cross-country diary
Harper’s exhibit features a variety of media that chronicles her travels across the U.S., from Illinois and Wyoming to Virginia and Michigan, while participating in four artist-in-residency programs. This diary of sorts includes paintings, mixed-media pieces, found objects and ceramics.
