Kristen Power arrived at Missouri State in 2010. That’s when she met her future husband, Ryan Frewin, but at the time she saw him as her sister’s husband’s best friend – an acquaintance. The two slowly became friends after moving in to the same building in downtown Springfield.
“We were always together doing dumb stuff! Apparently, our mutual friends were always talking behind Ryan and I’s backs saying that they thought we liked each other. Ryan and I didn’t see it that way at all, at the time!” Power said.
It wouldn’t be until a few years later and some distance, Frewin moved to St. Louis, that the couple would come to realize their feelings.
“Over Labor Day weekend, Ryan came to Kansas City for his nephew’s birth and I was in St. Joe. He made the drive to see me after his nephew was born and we have both said since then, that weekend totally changed our feelings for each other. We can’t really put our finger on what it was, but we completely fell for each other and in a week’s time, Ryan asked me to be his girlfriend and we have been together ever since!”
All hail the maroon and white
Mrs. Frewin says her husband is one of the biggest Bears fans she knows.
“He grew up in Springfield, so he has great memories of going to watch Bears basketball games as a kid. Seventy-five-percent of his wardrobe is BearWear… and he even named his dog ‘Bear’.”
She says getting to share their love for their alma mater is something special.
“We both love Springfield and Missouri State. We are so proud of our school and how much it is growing and succeeding! Go Bears!”
From her husband’s wardrobe to their dog to their friends, the Frewins had plenty of maroon and white at their wedding.
“I don’t even think Ryan or I realized we were holding the flag or even knew who handed it to us, but it made for a pretty cool shot! Everyone in the photo went to Missouri State, which is pretty cool!”
