Missouri State University will help the community face racism head-on.

The Facing Racism Institute, hosted by the division for diversity and inclusion, is a two-day workshop for community members. Its goal is to uncover racism and understand its impact.

The upcoming event is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4-5 in the Adolos building across from Carrington Hall on National Avenue.

What is the Facing Racism Institute?

Through presentations and exercises, participants will build a shared understanding of racism together.

Dialogue and activities will guide the sessions. The program encourages conversations among participants of all backgrounds in a safe space.

After facing racism and its impact on individuals, businesses and the community, participants develop tools to create inclusive environments.

“The impact is incredible and the process is personal for each participant,” said Juan Meraz, assistant vice president for diversity and inclusion. “The experience is life changing and the personal development allows one to become an anti-racist champion.”

The program seeks participants with varied backgrounds to ensure quality and dynamic cross-cultural conversations.

The cost to attend is $350 for MSU faculty and staff or $400 for community members.

Full attendance is required. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
