Fredi Lajvardi has inspired many worldwide with his story of hope and perseverance with disadvantaged students.

He’s bringing his story to the Public Affairs Convocation at Missouri State University on Nov. 5.

Underwater dreams

In 2004, Lajvardi led an underprivileged high school robotics team to a national competition. There, they beat the top-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The Falcon Robotics Team worked from the ground up, building their underwater robot out of parts from Home Depot.

Their story inspired the documentary “Underwater Dreams,” and the films “Spare Parts” and “Dream Big.”

Inspiring from experience

Lajvardi travels to tell his story and promote the public affairs theme, “Unity in Community.” He also promotes the importance of STEM education.

He is an advocate for diversity in the classroom. He believes in helping every student achieve his or her full potential, no matter the circumstances.

Public Affairs Convocation

Lajvardi will speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

After the presentation, there will be a time for autographs and photos with Lajvardi in the lobby.

The event is free and open to the public.
