The office of multicultural programs at Missouri State University will host several events in honor of Latino/a/x Heritage Month.
The events will take place Sept. 7 to Oct. 6 on campus.
“By having educational and engaging programs that represent Latino/a/x heritage, MSU fosters respect and open-mindedness for other cultures,” said Dr. Nina Barudzic, director of multicultural programs.
“Our hope is that the Missouri State campus and Springfield community will learn more about one another and broaden their understanding of different identities.”

Sept. 7
Latino/a/x New Student Welcome: Get connected with individuals on campus and share your college experiences. The event is at 5 p.m. Sept. 7 at Plaster Student Union (PSU), Room 400, Union Club.
Sept. 14
Tuesday Talk: Learn about the experiences of Latino/a/x individuals in the U.S. The panel is at 5 p.m. Sept. 15 in PSU, Room 101.
Sept. 15
Intersectionality: Check out students’ art inspired by Latino/a/x culture and the intersectionality between Latino/a/x and other cultures. The event starts at 5 p.m. Sept. 15 at PSU, Room 101.
Sept. 22
Familism: Join the workshop to learn about the social and academic life among Latino/a/x families. Felipe Padilla Soriano will be the guest speaker. The event begins at 3 p.m. Sept. 22 at PSU, Room 101.
Sept. 26
Bailar Con Nosotros/Dance with Us: Enjoy dance performances by Grupo Latinoamericano and music from a Cuban singer. The event is at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 in the PSU Ballroom. Students may attend for free, and the entry fee for faculty, staff and community members is $15.
Sept. 27
Latino/a/x Heritage Month Speaker: Learn about Latino/a/x heritage from a guest speaker. The speaker will be announced on Sept. 13. The event is at 7 p.m. at the PSU Theater.
Oct. 6
DiversiTEA time: Try tea from Latin America. The event begins at 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at PSU, Room 101.
