In a world that rarely slows down, stress can quietly build up until it feels like a constant companion. Sometimes the world may feel too loud, here are a couple of ways to help destress!
Take a break to breathe:
Deep, mindful breaths signal your nervous system to relax. Try inhaling for four seconds, holding for four, and exhaling for six. One minute of focused breathing can reset your entire mood. I’ve found that using breathing exercises helps calm down the nervous system and helps you focus on regulating your body.
Take a walk
It doesn’t need to be a long walk. A short walk, whether it’s around the block or to another room, can help you clear your mind and release tension. Movement reduces stress hormones and increases feel-good chemicals. I like going for a walk on short trails I find while exploring!
One thing at a time
Stress thrives in clutter whether it is mental or physical. Choose one small thing to tackle: answer one email, complete one homework assignment, or write a to-do list for the next day. Progress, even tiny, reduces pressure.
Give yourself permission to rest
We often push rest to the bottom of our priorities. But rest is productive. A five-minute break, a quiet moment, or a good night’s sleep can recharge your mind more than powering through ever will. If you love music like me, you could even take a brief dance break; rest doesn’t mean it has to be physical, it can be mental as well.
Remember, stress may be unavoidable, but staying stressed doesn’t have to be your default. By taking small steps toward calm, you create space for clarity, balance, and joy. Be gentle with yourself; you’re doing the best you can, and every moment of care counts!
