March 27, 2013 by

Rachel Boner, a print and internet journalism major at Missouri State University, received a grant of $500 from the Society of American and Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) to attend the organization’s 50th annual spring conference in Washington, D.C. this April. She is the second journalism student from Missouri State to attend a SABEW conference.

“This will be a great experience for Rachel,” said Warren Watson, SABEW executive director. “This is our 50th anniversary conference, our biggest event ever. There will be skills sessions, major keynoters, newsmakers, panel discussions and business journalism notables of all shapes and sizes. We’re glad she will be able to make it.”

The three-day conference will include presentations from Janet Yellen, Federal Reserve vice chair; Tim Armstrong, CEO of America Online; Larry Leibowitz, chief operating officer of the New York Stock Exchange; Randy Levine, president of the New York Yankees; and Jim Cramer, author and host of “Mad Money.”

In addition to attending these presentations, she will also spend time with prominent journalists representing well-known news organizations and publications like “The New York Times,” Reuters, “Bloomberg News,” “The Wall Street Journal,” American City Business Journals, “The Dallas Morning News,” MSNBC, CNNMoney.com, “Money” magazine and the “Chicago Tribune.”

SABEW consists of over 3,000 writers and editors striving to maintain high standards of business and financial journalism.
