Missouri State University, in partnership with Drury University, Ozarks Technical Community College, Evangel University and Southwest Baptist University, will be collecting shoe donations Oct. 1 – 24 for the project, Stomp Out Hunger: All Collegiate Shoe Drive. All shoes collected from each participating organization will be delivered to the parking lot of Schweitzer United Methodist Church at 2747 E Sunshine Street on Oct. 25 at 9:00 a.m. for a rallying end to the 2014 project.
About the project
Stomp Out Hunger is a collaboration between regional higher education institutions and Sole Food, a local project that partners with and benefits Shoeman Water Projects and Friends Against Hunger to reduce hunger locally and abroad. They have a direct contribution to the health and welfare of many in our global communities, one shoe at a time.
How to get involved
Shoes will be collected at sites across campus and then joined together with the other participating organizations’ collections. This year’s project will include an element of competition among the schools to see which school can collect the largest percentage of shoes compared to their total enrollment.
Volunteers are also needed. Students, faculty and staff interested in getting involved can contact the office of public affairs support at 836-8832.
Your shoes at work
Donating just one pair of shoes directly helps feed the hungry both in the U.S. and internationally, provides footwear goods for local vendors in developing countries, helps build water purification systems for villages in Kenya and Haiti, and impacts educational and healthcare needs.
