RCOAL releases anthem video in celebration of gift, new name

“We’re proud to be a destination campus for the arts and letters,” Dean Wahl said. “We want everyone to know our new name. We want to celebrate Judy’s legacy.”

March 8, 2021 by Angela Barker

Timed with the continued expansion of facilities and the selection of the second class of Reynolds Scholars, Dr. Shawn Wahl commissioned a video to celebrate the naming of the Judith Enyeart Reynolds College of Arts & Letters (RCOAL).

“We’re proud to be a destination campus for the arts and letters,” Wahl said. “We want everyone to know our new name. We want to celebrate Judy’s legacy.”

A recent string of accomplishments has underscored the quality of our students, faculty, and alumni in the Reynolds College. Wahl said, “We have faculty and student filmmakers winning national awards and a new Student Exhibition Center in downtown Springfield. We’re an All-Steinway School and now have a new name as result of receiving the largest scholarship gift in university history. These are just a few of the things that make RCOAL special.”

These arts achievements, Wahl said, are complemented by robust letters curriculum. “Our faculty and students in letters also receive national recognition in the form of major awards and important grants. This work develops skills such as writing, public speaking and critical thinking. The academic programs in RCOAL are part of the university Long Range Plan (LRP) and will continue to have a focus on student success.”

It’s all part of preparing students for an unpredictable future that demands flexibility and creativity.

“More than anything,” Wahl said, “we’re training creative problem solvers. When students learn to perform, they learn to communicate effectively. When they learn visual arts, they learn how to execute a unique vision. When they learn to play an instrument, they develop the self-discipline to accomplish difficult tasks.”

Wahl added, “We will continue to empower bold ideas, while reflecting on the past to take on future challenges. We will honor the legacy of Judy with enriched student learning experiences supported by state of the art facilities.”
