Dr. Jake Simmons and Dr. Shawn Wahl’s article “Understanding the African-American student experience in higher education through a relational dialectics perspective” (co-authored by Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart. Amarillo College, and Dr. Chad McBride, Creighton University) was selected for recognition with the Distinguished Article Award by the Instructional Development Division of the National Communication Association. The award recognizes one outstanding scholarly article that contributes significantly to the field of instructional communication or communication education. Eligible articles must have been published in a peer-reviewed scholarly outlet at least five years prior to the date of the award with a primary focus on theory and/or research related to instructional communication or communication education.
Wahl and Simmons have also published a national essay on institutional inclusion and a book on intercultural communication.
