The College of Arts and Letters and College of Education are co-sponsoring a lecture by Sarah Rutherford, a secondary teacher-educator at Monash University, Australia, at 7 p.m., Feb. 22 in Plaster Student Union, room 313.
Commentary on policy debates in education, curriculum
Rutherford specializes in language and literacy education, and sociology of education. In her lecture, she will offer insight into her country’s education system, drawing on current debates concerning teacher quality in Australia to illuminate current policy and curriculum decisions.
She will detail the challenges facing educators in Australia as the country continually seeks to reconcile the policy environment with effective preservice teacher education whilst maintaining an approach that places relationships and the student at the center of the pedagogy.
