What’s better on a student budget than free entertainment? Right, nothing. Starting tomorrow, you can enjoy a free outdoor movie each Friday and Saturday night for the next 8 weeks. This is the first weekend of Summer Movies at Founders Park.
Each weekend, Friday night is designated family night and the feature film is something aimed at the kids. This week the movie is Shrek Ever After. Saturday nights are designated Date Night and feature movies that might appeal more to adults. However, all movies carry a G, PG, or PG-13 rating, so even Saturdays are often family oriented. This Saturday, the movie will be the classic Meet Me in St. Louis. The whole idea of these free movies is to get Springfield residents out enjoying the summer evening together – everyone is welcome.
As a special bonus, in addition to the feature film on most Saturday nights, you will get to enjoy some short film entries from the SATO 48 challenge. These films are the result of a spring competition where filmmaking teams were challenged to produce a 5-minute film in just 48 hours after opening their “Inspiration Package” which gave them the requirements and criteria.
There is a catch to the *free*thing… You have to pick up your free tickets before you head out to the movie. If you wait until that night at the park, you have to pay $5.00. Free tickets can be picked up at the Chesterfield or Doling Family Centers, the Busch Municipal Building on Boonville, the Mediacom Offices, or (closest to campus) at the Mediacom Ice Park in Jordan Valley Park.
Founders Park is located on Water Street between Jefferson and Boonville. There is free parking in nearby lots. Check out the full list of summer movies and more information at http://www.springfieldmo.gov/founders/movies.html.
