African American Heritage month begins February 1st. Check out the Diversity Blog for a full list of events. This weeks events include:
Tunnel of Oppresion – An interactive program demonstrating various forms of discrimination and oppression, followed by a debriefing discussion. The event runs from 6 – 10 PM on February 1-2 in the Wells House Lobby/Basement.
Guest Speaker Dr. Susan Burch: “Unspeakable: A Dialogue on Race and Disability” – Dr. Susan Burch will share from her book Unspeakable: The Life Story of Junius Wilson. The event will take place on February 2nd at 7 PM in Carrington Hall 208/Auditorium.
African American Read-In: Storytelling – An evening of poetry, music, and stories written and composed by African American authors. This event takes place February 6 at 7 PM at Drury University – Diversity Center.
National Black AIDS Awareness Day – On February 7th there will be free HIV/AIDS, STD, Hepatitis C testing from 10 AM – 2 PM in PSU 308C and 5 – 7 PM in 315C. The day also features “HIV/AIDS in the Black Community” presented by Stephanie Washington the event takes place at 7 PM in PSU 312AB.
Wedensday, February 1st

The 11th Annual Community Volunteer Fair will be from 11 AM – 2 PM today on the PSU 1st and 2nd floors. Approximately 50 Springfield area nonprofit agencies will be on campus to discuss current and upcoming volunteer and service-learning opportunities.
From 7 – 9 PM Alhpa Phi Omega will be providing board games and Texas Hold’Em as part of Game Night and Texas Hold’Em.
This weeks SAC Weekly Film is Tower Heist. Directed by Brett Ratner and starring Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. Check out our preview and catch the film at 9 PM.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year with the Chinese New Year Banquet from 5:30 – 9 PM. For $10 you enjoy food and performance to celebrate.
Saturday, February 4th
On Saturday join Alpha Phi Omega from 8 AM – 1 PM as they Volunteer at Ozarks Food Harvest. The event is open to current students.
Sunday, February 5th
Catch Tower Heist again at 9 PM.

From 10 AM – 6 PM the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will be hosting a Blood Drive in the PSU Ballroom. The event runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Interested in having a fun and meaningful Spring Break? The Office of Student Engagement is sponsoring two Alternative Spring Break Trips that will provide 10-15 students per trip to travel to a major US city, learn about a specific social issue, and provide meaningful service to the community. The trip will cost students $150, and the cost is to cover housing, food, and travel expenses. The cost can be defrayed through additional fundraising and scholarships. There will be an opportunity for up to 40 students to participate in Shelter Training through the American Red Cross on February 18 from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM. All participants will become trained in how to run a shelter and further be certified to be utilized in any shelters that occur in town on a regular basis, during an emergency, and can optionally be deployed in case of a major disaster in the United States.
