What Are STAR Awards

STAR Awards (Student Talent and Recognition) is an award ceremony that honors outstanding students and student organizations. STAR Awards 2012will take place on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m in the PSU Ballroom.

History

In 1996 Missouri State University hosted the first ever Student Talent and Recognition (STAR) Awards Ceremony. Each year STAR Awards is a ceremony that honors roughly twenty-five outstanding student leaders and student organizations which have been nominated by various organizations, students, faculty, and staff. Since its beginning, STAR Awards has recognized roughly 300 students, organizations, and advisors at Missouri State.

The awards banquet is a business formal/cocktail event with a red-carpet, buffet dinner, and candlelit tables. The ceremony is an invitation only event. It is designed to give outstanding students a formal recognition in front of the peers and organizations they have influenced. This year’s ceremony will take place on Monday, April 23, 2012, in the Plaster Student Union Grand Ballroom at 5:30 pm. We are graciously looking for your assistance recognizing these student leaders in as many ways as possible and have provided a couple of options from which to choose.

Application Process

Award Applications are now available!
All award applications are due by 4:00 p.m. THURSDAY, March 1, 2012.
The nominees will be notified at a date to be determined.

About the Awards

STAR Awards 2012 will present over twenty-five awards. Awards nominated by student organizations are broken into two divisions: group and individual. Other awards are nominated by faculty, staff, and students, including self-nominations. Nomination criteria is listed at the top of every award application. Best of luck to this year’s nominees! Please take a moment to browse the awards and nominate deserving students and organizations.

We encourage you to make nominations for every award possible. Furthermore, we encourage you to nominate other groups, advisors, and individuals whom you feel worthy of such honors. Everyone must submit one (1) complete stapled copies of each award nomination along with one (1) cover sheet. A group or organization applying for multiple awards should also attach a cover sheet to each award that is being applied for. No applications will be accepted via email, and all applications must be typed. Please limit your nomination letters for each award to a maximum of three typed pages.

When filling out the award, make sure that the name of the nominated individual or organization only appears on the cover page. The nominated organization or individual’s name CANNOT be included anywhere else in the award application (evaluation sheet, essay, letters of recommendation, etc) for judging purposes. If the name is anywhere else besides this cover page, the award could be disqualified.

The PowerPoint

There will be a PowerPoint slideshow during the awards banquet, so each organization should submit at least five photos on a CD to the Office of Student Engagement to be included in this year’s presentation. The deadline for photos to be included in this year’s slideshow is THURSDAY, March 1, 2012.
