The English Department’s Cynthia Johnson and John Turner will facilitate a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) through the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning: Information Literacy in an AI Era.

If you previously participated in one of their FLCs on AI and college writing, this content has been reworked to bring a broader focus based on concepts that emerged in previous sessions of their earlier FLC. There will be something new for everyone, including a new book, Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI by Ethan Mollick.

Generative AI is currently having a profound effect on industries and higher education. Employers now name AI literacy as a sought-after skill for the graduates they hire. What does it mean to be AI literate and how can academic programs respond to the challenges of AI while still maintaining core values related to critical thinking, writing, and academic integrity? This FLC will help you sort through your options as an instructor and help you to make decisions regarding what your AI course policies should be for students.

To help participants fit the program into their busy schedules, all FLC sessions will meet via Zoom from 3:00 to 5:00 on the following dates during the spring semester: January 29, February 12, February 26, March 12, and March 26.

FLCs provide an opportunity for faculty to consider topics relevant to their teaching and disciplines in a collaborative environment. You can register for the FLC through MyLearningConnection in your university account. Participants should register by January 28th.
