Reminder – Grant Proposals and Teaching Excellence Award Applications Due Feb 1

January 20, 2026 by Hailey Maples

Are you looking for funding for your scholarly projects? Are you interested in studying the impact of education abroad learning environments? Do you want to be recognized for the ways you go above and beyond in the classroom? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you don’t want to miss the deadlines coming up at the end of this month.

Teaching and Learning Grants

Proposals for Teaching and Learning Grants are due February 1, 2026. The FCTL offers two types of teaching and learning grants to faculty interested in pursuing a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project to advance teaching and learning research, practices, and knowledge. Both of these grants, the FCTL Teaching and Learning Grant and the FCTL Education Abroad Grant, award amounts up to $3,000, and are available for application to any MSU faculty member.

The proposal process for Teaching and Learning Grants from the FCTL has been intentionally designed to be as easy, quick, and painless as possible for busy faculty members. The FCTL provides a template for each grant type and detailed instructions as to what each section of a proposal must include on the FCTL website. If you’d like to obtain funding for a project in the upcoming year, be sure to submit a proposal before the (quickly approaching) deadline! To learn more about either grant or get started on your proposal now, visit the FCTL’s step-by-step guide for Teaching and Learning Grant Proposals.

Teaching Excellence Award

Applications for the Teaching Excellence Award are also due February 1, 2026. This award recognizes outstanding faculty members who have gone above and beyond in supporting student learning and facilitating student success in their teaching practices. Recipients of the Teaching Excellence Award receive a $1,000 payroll stipend, and the FCTL will award up to five awards each academic year. If you’re finding new and innovative ways to deliver instruction or assessment, cultivating supportive classroom culture, or demonstrating teaching excellence in some other way, apply for this year’s award! Applicants for the Teaching Excellence Award can find guidelines and submission instructions on the FCTL webpage.
