Next in the Showcase Spotlight Series is a faculty member from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders: Dr. Bonnie Slavych!

Dr. Bonnie Slavych, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, will be presenting at the Showcase this fall during the second session of simultaneous faculty presentations. In this presentation, Dr. Slavych will be sharing a fascinating look into backward design, flipped learning, and AI management. This session will center around an in-depth look at the design and evolution of a graduate-level course utilizing backward design and flipped learning principles, prioritizing the meaningful usage of assessments and in-class activities to support application, reasoning, and discussion over traditional content-coverage concerns. Attendees will learn how the design of this course and the learning strategies employed within it can shape student learning behaviors and increase student interaction, engagement, and professional judgement—all while decreasing opportunities for inappropriate AI use. For more details on the innovative and effective strategies being shared during this presentation, locate Dr. Slavych’s full session description in the Showcase event schedule on the FCTL website.

To find the sign-up within My Learning Connection, click the link below and navigate to the “Learning and Development” card in My Missouri State.
