At the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station

Setting up the spent mushroom compost demonstration

July 23, 2021 by Marilyn Odneal

Emily and Trace, Missouri State summer student interns, and Randy Stout, field supervisor, set up the spent mushroom compost demonstration. This demo will be featured at the Mushroom Production Workshop to be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Different levels of compost, a by-product of the mushroom production, were put in each bucket ranging from 25% to 75%. Two plants of each of three tomato cultivars were planted in the buckets – Sweet Treats, Firefly, and Pink Beefsteak. We also planted one pepper.

Trace affixes the strings to support the tomato plants while Emily helps line up the locations of the eye bolts. Randy keeps the ladder steady.
