Do you keep track of your learning and development goals, certifications, and the relevant training you receive? My Learning Connection automatically tracks courses from Organizational & Talent Development and other groups across campus, but when you attend a webinar from an outside professional development group or complete an industry specific e-book, you’ll want to track that information manually. It’s simple to do once you know how!
Why Track Training?
For many departments and positions, staying current on certifications, licenses, and industry trends is important to your success and performance on the job. Tracking your training in one location (My Learning Connection) helps you assess your current skills and create a plan to advance your career at Missouri State. It helps your management team know what training materials you’ve completed and how many hours you need to be considered trained in a specific area. Plus, growing your transcript shows initiative and commitment. Ultimately, keeping a log of ALL completed training in and out of Missouri State helps you:
- Recognize your own skill gaps and accomplishments
- Focus on your big-picture career goals
- Value the work you’ve already completed
- Gain credibility in your role
- Provide insight to your supervisor
Pro Tip: Be sure to clearly outline what the course was about, the benefits of the external training, and how your development of those skills benefited your team. For example, taking an online course on business communication might help you write program guides, lead teams, or develop reports for directors.
