💡Benefit Spotlight – Hospital Insurance

November 4, 2025 by Deidre Mings

No Hospital Plan Rate Changes for 2026!

We’re excited to share some great news—hospital insurance premiums will remain the same for 2026! This stability makes it an excellent time to review your options and consider adding coverage that provides extra peace of mind when you need it most.

❤️Protect Your Finances When It Matters Most

Hospital insurance is designed to offer additional financial support during hospital stays, working in coordination with your existing medical insurance. This plan helps ease the burden of out-of-pocket costs by providing direct cash payments to you—so you can focus on recovery, not unexpected bills.

🏥How It Works with Your Health Plan

This coverage can complement your medical plan and other university benefits to help support your overall financial well-being during a hospital stay.

For example:
If an employee is hospitalized for a 48-hour stay for child birth with a vaginal delivery, the university’s health plan would pay according to its coverage (after the deductible and coinsurance).
However, the employee could also:

  • đź’µReceive a lump-sum payment from the hospital insurance plan,

  • đź•’Have time away from work supported by internal leave policies such as sick leave, vacation, faculty paid leave, or shared leave, and

  • 🛡️Receive additional income protection from the short-term disability plan, if enrolled.

Together, these benefits help create a stronger financial safety net during recovery or time away from work.
