Prepare Today for a Healthier Tomorrow
Summer is a great time to prepare for the busy cold and flu season ahead. A little planning now can help you stay healthier this fall and winter.
Your On-Campus Healthcare Resource
Magers Health and Wellness Center is a convenient on-campus healthcare resource for benefits-eligible employees. In addition to providing primary care services, Magers offers biometric screenings year-round to help employees better understand and monitor their health.
Biometric screenings provide important health information, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and other health indicators. These screenings can help identify potential health concerns early and provide an opportunity to discuss your results with a healthcare provider.
As cold and flu season approaches, Magers will also host flu vaccination clinics this fall. Employees should watch the HR Blog, Wellness Works Blog, and wellness newsletters for future announcements regarding vaccination clinic dates and availability to schedule vaccinations. Employees are encouraged to talk with their healthcare provider about recommended vaccines and which options may be appropriate for themselves and their families.
Focus on Preventive Care
Preventive care is one of the best ways to stay ahead of potential health concerns. Annual preventive visits provide an opportunity to:
- Review your overall health with a provider.
- Discuss recommended screenings and vaccinations.
- Identify health concerns early.
- Create a plan to support your long-term wellness.
For Missouri State University Health Plan members, preventive services are covered at 100% when received through Magers or another in-network provider, as outlined by the plan.
Know Your In-Network Options
Choosing Magers Health and Wellness Center or an in-network Mercy provider can help lower your out-of-pocket costs. Before scheduling an off-campus appointment, use the Mercy Provider Directory to confirm your provider participates in the Missouri State University Health Plan.
Help Prevent the Spread of Illness
Simple habits can make a difference during cold and flu season. Wash your hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes, and avoid close contact with others when you are feeling ill. If you are unable to work due to illness, Missouri State’s Sick Leave Policy allows eligible employees to use accrued sick leave for personal illness, medical appointments, and certain family care needs. Springfield campus employees are also not required to use sick leave for appointments at Magers Health and Wellness Center and other eligible on-campus healthcare providers.
Taking a few simple steps now can help you stay healthy, reduce the spread of illness, and make the most of your university benefits throughout the year.
