Living with diabetes or prediabetes can feel overwhelming, but education, support and practical tools can make managing your health easier. Whether you have recently been diagnosed, have been managing diabetes for years, or are supporting a family member, there are resources available to help you build healthy habits and take control of your health.
Missouri State University employees and their families can take advantage of two free diabetes education opportunities this fall, including a six-week education and support program and an in-person presentation right here on the Springfield Campus.
Free Six-Week Diabetes Education Program
Managing Diabetes Just Got Easier
This free six-week program is designed for individuals with diabetes or prediabetes, as well as family members and caregivers. The program focuses on practical strategies for managing a chronic condition, building healthy habits and improving quality of life.
📅 When: Thursdays, September 17–October 22 | 6–8 p.m.
📍 Where: 3265 S. National Avenue, Springfield, MO
💲 Cost: FREE — registration required

Participants will receive Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions. The American Diabetes Association identifies the program as meeting the Diabetes Support Initiative criteria for support programming.
The program is open to anyone with a diabetes or prediabetes diagnosis, as well as family members and caregivers.

Additional Diabetes Resources
Diabetes management is about more than medication. Nutrition, physical activity, blood sugar monitoring, preventive care and ongoing education can all play an important role.
Missouri State offers wellness and fitness resources that can complement diabetes education, including Employee Wellness programming, Campus Recreation, nutrition programs and fitness opportunities.
Diabetes Education May Be Covered by Mo State Health Plan
- Educational training. One Medically Necessary unit of educational training is allowed per illness per lifetime, however, subject to approval by the Utilization Review Coordinator a new unit will be allowed when one of the following occurs: a change in diagnosis, prescribed treatment, or prescribed supplies (i.e., non-insulin dependent to insulin dependent diabetes; self-injectable to insulin pump). A unit may be multiple visits with different specialists over multiple days.
