Leader Bear: Katy Warfield

September 1, 2017 by Olayemi Ponnle

What better way to welcome the new month than with a Leader Bear Spotlight! Our#LeaderBear spotlight this week is Katy Warfield.

Katy Warfield is senior Socio-political Communication major. She is a graduate of not only one, but two of our leadership programs, Commerce Bank Emerging Leaders and Distinction of Public Affairs.

Katy has had the pleasure of serving as a Student Coordinator in the Center for Community Engagement, Alpha Sigma Alpha’s student representative, as well as Director of Student Affairs for Student Government Association, Assistant Manager of the Student Food Pantry, and President of Rho Lambda. She has also been fortunate to be recognized by the STAR Awards as the Living Our Values award recipient in 2016 and as the FSL recipient of Outstanding Community Engagement award in 2017. She is ecstatic to continue her public affairs-focused education throughout her senior year.

Katy has had great experiences with the programs…

“The leadership programs have pushed me beyond where I viewed my own potential. I would have never gotten to where I am without the lessons and connections I made during the Emerging Leaders sessions and retreat. That retreat impacted me in ways I could never imagined. Without my group’s support during the retreat, I wouldn’t have gone on to run for president of one of my organizations.”

As senior, ready to graduate in May 2018, Katy had these words for younger students…

“Don’t just go around joining every organization. They won’t all give you what you need out of them. Find those few good organizations that will help you grow as a leader, student, and overall human being. Seek purpose and self-growth in the opportunitiesyou are given.”
