Leader Bear: Daezia Smith

September 22, 2017 by Olayemi Ponnle

This school year has been going by fast, it’s hard to believe we’re almost done with September! Our #LeaderBear spotlight this week will be graduating in 2019 with a Master in Global Studies. She has been involved in many different organizations and has continued her involvement into her graduate studies. Here’s Daezia Smith!

Daezia’s top five strengths are being flexible, compassionate, dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic. During her undergrad, Daezia was the Director of Public Affairs in the Student Government Association. In 2016, she was selected as the MSU Women Student of Distinction during women’s history month. She was also an Inclusive Excellence Scholar.

Currently, Daezia is a  graduate assistant in the International Leadership and Training Committee and serves on the President’s Diversity Council and Public Affairs Conference Advisory Committee.

During her undergrad, she did not go through any of our three programs but she did have insight on what any good leadership program should have…

The most impactful aspect about any leadership program I have worked with is the emphasis placed on being a good contributing member of society. I love the way the programs not only teach you how to be a leader but also how important it is to value your community and contribute in impactful ways for the benefit of everyone.

Daezia also had some advice for younger students…

Get involved! Doing so will open so many doors to opportunities for new friendships, jobs, careers and so much more! Learn how to balance time to the fullest. College is about making memories and going to class is important. But so is a random weekend trip with friends. Balancing time for both classes and those fun weekends out will make everything even more enjoyable.
