NSF MRI Internal Mini-Proposal time!

It’s time to start the NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) internal process.  This is the initial call for mini proposals to determine which PI’s will submit full proposals.

DEADLINES

August 5 – Mini proposals are due.  Limit 3 pages. Submit mini proposals to researchadministration@missouristate.edu

These proposals must clearly describe the instrumentation being proposed, the PI’s and co-PIs involved, a cost estimate for the instrument and a cost estimate for installation and annual upkeep for the instrument.  If there are room renovations required for the instrument those need to be disclosed in this proposal.  The PI must also indicate where the instrument will reside.

August 6 – The ORA will distribute the proposals to the Deans.  Deans will choose the top two by August 13th.

August 14th – ORA will notify all who submitted mini proposals of the final decision.

The NSF full proposal submission deadline window is October 15, 2024, through November 15, 2024.  The final deadline to have the full, completed proposal and internal approvals to your ORA representative is November 12.

NIH Grants Process: A Brief Walk-Through for Beginners Webinar

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is hosting “The NIH Grants Process: A Brief Walk-Through for Beginners” webinar on May 15, 1:00-2:30 pm ET. Registration is required.

This webinar will address many of the basic questions that NIH frequently hears from newcomers to the process.  The webinar will include a live Q&A with NIH experts who will be helping to answer additional questions submitted during the registration process and raised during the event.

Who signs this document?

Frequently, people wonder who is responsible for signing a particular document. The answer is not straightforward and depends on the type of document.

If the document in question is a proposal for external funding, a grant, or an externally-funded contract, it is the responsibility of our office to sign it. Specifically, the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) is the person or persons authorized by the University’s Board of Governors to sign these types of documents.

The AOR for the University is the Vice President for Community and Global Partnerships or their delegate and signature is obtained through ORA.

If you are unsure about who should sign a document, please do not hesitate to contact us.

 

Travel Fund

If you’re looking to obtain external funding, the Office of Research Administration can help you with travel expenses.    

If you’re a potential PI, you can receive reimbursement of up to $1,500 for travel expenses related to visiting program managers of various funding agencies or attending proposal development conferences for future proposal submissions! 

Funding is limited for this program. Therefore, it’s essential to gain authorization for the funding before departure by filling out the Travel Fund Request Form.

Please note that your department is responsible for covering travel expenses upfront, and the ORA will reimburse the Department once a proposal has been submitted.

This webinar will discuss NSF’s implementation of the National Science and Technology Council-approved Common Forms for the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support. This session will cover the policy behind NSF’s implementation in the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 24-1). In addition, our colleagues from NIH/National Library of Medicine will provide a demonstration of the revised capability to create and download these required proposal documents in SciENcv.

The Spencer Foundation is accepting applications for the Small Research Grants on Education Program until April 30.  The Spencer Foundation supports field-initiated education research projects with budgets of up to $50,000 for project periods of one to three years. Meet Our Growing Team: A Closer Look at the Faces Behind the Grant Administration Office

We are pleased to introduce Amanda Hay and Adam Niesen, the two newest members of our team. We are excited to have them aboard and look forward to the contributions they will make to our office.

Amanda is working on post-award contractual matters and Adam with compliance areas such as IACUC and IRB.  Their expertise in these areas will be invaluable to our office and the researchers we support. We are thrilled to have them on board and look forward to working with them.

With the help of Amanda and Adam, Shannon and Janene will be able to focus on funding searches, proposal development and submission, and outreach and training for the current faculty and staff.  Our hope is to create a more proactive and collaborative pre-award process.

Janene Proctor’s areas across campus include CNAS, DCOAG, LIB, OIE and RCASH

Missouri Foundation for Health’s Opportunity Fund Now Open!

Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) invites organizations to submit concept papers for systems change projects that will positively impact the health of Missourians. MFH is interested in community-driven work that challenges and disrupts inequitable systems.

Projects should address structural issues that impact health, either via social determinants of health or health care. Approaches include changes to policies, practices, resource flows, relationships, power dynamics, narratives, or mental models.

To share your idea with Missouri Foundation for Health, submit a brief concept paper. Missouri Foundation for Health will review concept papers and then send invitations to organizations to submit full proposals if the idea fits with Opportunity Fund and aligns with their mission and values.

Concept papers are due April 30, 2024, by noon (CT).

The 2024 International Center for Responsible Gaming Grants Program

The International Center for Responsible Gaming invites investigators to apply for a Travel Grant, Seed Grant or Large Grant to study the etiology, prevention and treatment of gambling disorder, a behavioral disorder highly comorbid with other addictive and psychiatric disorders.

Large Grants offer up to $75,000/per year in direct costs for 2 years plus 15% indirect costs.

  • Deadline for Letters of Intent: April 1, 2024.
  • Application Deadline: July 15, 2024.

Seed Grants offer up to $40,000/per year in direct costs for one year plus 15% indirect costs.

  • Application Deadline: May 1, 2024 .

Travel Grants support the participation of post-doctoral investigators presenting a poster or paper on gambling disorder at a scientific meeting in 2024 or 2025. Applicants may request up to $1,500.
