Kathy Nordyke is being featured as September’s Public Affairs Spotlight student recipient for her active involvement in public affairs on campus. Kathy aims to engage students, faculty, staff and administration in the university’s commitment to the American Democracy Project (ADP) with a primary focus of integrating the Seven Revolutions initiative into the framework of both academics and co-curricular activities for students. The purpose of both is to engage students in becoming global citizens and addressing issues that they will face as future leaders. Kathy has overseen integration of the Seven Revolutions curriculum into GEP 101, English, Social Work and the development of subject guides through the library that serve as a resource for faculty and students. The Seven Revolutions provide a framework for the Public Affairs mission of ethical leadership, cultural competence and community engagement. In addition, Kathy has inspired Missouri State’s freshman student population to develop a model Seven Revolutions student organization on campus, and initiated the New York Times “Times Talk” activity on campus. Her goal at Missouri State University is to inspire students to embrace global issues, engage in community service and be leaders, which is why Kathy is being recognized as the Public Affairs Spotlight student recipient for September 2011!
