After the Missouri State University baseball team made its second trip to NCAA Super Regionals in three years, Ozarks Public Television (OPT) will premiere a locally produced documentary on the history and highlights of the storied athletics program.
“Many people know about Bears baseball, but they may not know how successful and dominant it’s been since starting in 1964,” producer-director Steve Wynn said. “It’s really amazing to hear coaches Bill Rowe and Keith Guttin talk about all the history and events that built the program.
“They should know, because they’re the only two coaches in the history of the program.”
How you can help make the show a reality
“Missouri State University Baseball: A Winning Tradition” will air on OPT at 8 p.m. July 20 and 4 p.m. July 23. The program is part of OPT’s commitment to local productions that document, present and preserve significant aspects of regional Ozarks history.
Individuals, area archives and the financial backing of project funders make it possible. Supporters can give to the project through a Missouri State Foundation crowdfunding opportunity.
“We’re so grateful for the strong community of support that makes this work possible,” OPT general manager Tammy Wiley said.
About the story
Archived video and photos supplement the story. Past and present coaches, support staff and former players also share their personal reflections. That list includes 1964 first-year team members John Crowden and Ken Magers, and first-round 2017 MLB draft selection Jake Burger.
“We’re big believers in celebrating traditions,” Wiley said. “We’re particularly excited about combining the wonderful tradition of Bears Baseball with OPT’s strong tradition of storytelling.”
