The Missouri State University Model United Nations (UN) team received a total of six awards at the Midwest conference last month.
MSU represented the People’s Republic of China, portraying what Chinese diplomats would do in simulations of UN committee meetings.
“Missouri State prides itself on accurately representing the nation we are given,” senior Jaren Newman said. “We make the Model UN feel like the actual UN.”
Model students
Junior Shelby Collier won an Outstanding International Press Delegate award for representing British Broadcasting Company (BBC). Collier is the first International Press Delegate MSU has taken to the conference.
Seniors John Duffey and Claire Kidwell received an Outstanding Position Paper award. They also received honorable mention for their representation of China in the Economic and Social Council.
Senior Mitch Truelove received an Outstanding Delegation for China in the overall conference and in the crisis simulation in Security Council South.
Newman won Outstanding Delegation as China during the crisis simulation in Security Council South.
About the conference
The conference, hosted in St. Louis, featured 40 universities from Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
Missouri State will represent Saudi Arabia at next year’s conference.
