Missouri State University raised $1,604,181 during its second annual Giving Day March 1-2. A total of 2,179 unique donors contributed during the campaign.
“This Giving Day showcased what our community can accomplish in 36 hours,” said MSU Executive Director of Engagement and Alumni Relations Greg Fansler. “The Missouri State University system came together with participation from students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, businesses and community members.
“The collective support resulted in a Giving Day success that will have an immediate and lasting impact on our university community.”
Friendly competition spurs donations
Challenges and matches provided a friendly competition to the day as donors and departments positioned themselves to increase the effect of their donations.
An anonymous donor made a $1 million challenge gift to help increase support for the McQueary College of Health and Human Services. The MSU community unlocked a total of $1,254,800 in match and challenge dollars.
Another highlight of this year’s Giving Day was the Ambassador program. Alumni, friends, faculty and staff ambassadors encouraged support for specific athletic teams or departments.
Some of the top areas to benefit from the ambassador outreach include the Lady Bears, women’s soccer, Pride Bands and the art and design department. Ambassadors accounted for 32% of dollars raised during the 36 hours.
“It was exciting to see how the ambassador program sparked participation,” said MSU Director of Annual Funds Alison Harper. “Several ambassadors were able to inspire dozens of gifts amounting to thousands of dollars in impact.”
People from 10 different countries and 45 states participated and made a gift.
“We couldn’t be more thankful to those who joined us and contributed during Giving Day,” Harper said. “Your support will make an impact now and in the future for our campus system.”
Those unable to make a gift on Giving Day are encouraged to make their gift now at MissouriState.edu/GiveNow.
Next year’s Giving Day is scheduled for March 5-6, 2024.
