"Think Bigger and Bolder"

College of Business Maintains Prestigious Accreditation

February 5, 2013 by Melissa Price

The College of Business and School of Accountancy retain accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. Founded in 1916, AACSB is the oldest global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

MSU’s College of Business is among the elite 5 percent of the world’s business programs to achieve this level of excellence. Today, there are more than 650 business schools in 45 countries and territories that maintain AACSB accreditation; 178 institutions, including MSU,  maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB accreditation,” says Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

The College of Business is one of the largest programs of its kind in the Midwest. It includes Computer Information Systems, Finance and General Business, Management and Marketing departments and the School of Accountancy in the business unit; and the two separately accredited departments of Fashion and Interior Design and Technology and Construction Management. The business unit prepares more than 4,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students for a wide spectrum of careers.

College of Business Dean Stephanie Bryant is proud of the college for retaining this distinguished recognition. “The hallmark of our programs is the personal touch we provide, allowing us to give each student individual attention. Despite being one of the largest business programs in the Midwest, we are able to keep class sizes small and provide individual advisement. I strongly believe that the learning environment we have created is exceptional.”

MSU President Clif Smart offered his congratulations by saying, “This is a great accomplishment for the College of Business and truly sets this college apart from other programs. I commend Dean Bryant and all of the college’s faculty and staff.”
