What does a mission of lifelong growth, service and ethical conduct look like in action?
Student members of Missouri State University’s Beta Alpha Psi (Theta Pi) chapter exemplified this mission in their fundraising project for Toys for Tots.
The program provides toy donations for families in need during the holidays.
Giving back to the community
Beta Alpha Psi student members raise funds through member events, so they can make sizeable donations at the end of the year to programs like Toys for Tots, explains Kyle Goodin, accounting instructor.
“Many employers that recruit on Missouri State’s campus place emphasis on charitable giving and community volunteerism as part of their culture,” Goodin said.
“Opportunities like these get students in the habit of engaging with and excited about community outreach.”
About Toys for Tots
Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 in Los Angeles and has since spread across the U.S.
The program collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year. They distribute these toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community where the campaign is conducted.
The program is coordinated locally by the Marine Corps Reserve in Springfield. In 2020, they supported 3,514 children with the distribution of 33,958 toys within the greater Springfield community.
