Taylor Ashbrook began her college journey with no intention of pursuing the degree that would lead her into her current career in finance. Born and raised in Chillicothe, Missouri, she enrolled at Missouri State University in 2019. She chose a general business major but was unsure of what to specialize in.
Navigating college
Along the way, Ashbrook discovered her passion for finance. While pursuing her degree, she worked as a teller in a community bank. Through that experience, she decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Finance.
When discussing fond memories at MSU, Ashbrook recalls one of her favorite experiences: a short-term education abroad program to Europe. While there, she not only explored different countries, but she also met with companies in Amsterdam and London to find out what they do.
“While studying abroad, I earned class credit and got to experience the culture of London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, too. These experiences were so valuable to me,” she said.
The graduate milestone
In December 2022, Ashbrook graduated with her degree and made the dean’s list. Her educational journey solidified her understanding of finance, economics and banking practices.
Upon graduation, Ashbrook moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to work as an assistant national bank examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Her passion to work in business stems from her aptitude for numbers and desire to engage with people.
“This was a great entry-level opportunity that allowed me to use my finance degree every day to evaluate the financial conditions of the bank, and levels of risk,” Ashbrook said.
Life outside the office
She enjoys living in Kansas City mainly because it is not too far from her hometown.
In her free time, Ashbrook likes to go axe throwing. She also loves to roller skate, which she has done since she was 14.
