Designated by the National Security Agency as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), Missouri State University’s department of information technology and cybersecurity (ITC) has introduced an online undergraduate certificate in cybersecurity.
Why consider this certificate
Cybersecurity skills are needed in every field, not just IT. Employers want graduates who can protect data, follow rules and lower risks.
This 12-hour online certificate gives students a strong start in cybersecurity. It is affordable and open to all majors. The program offers opportunities to advance careers, strengthen resumes or build a path to a full degree.
“The cybersecurity certificate is for both working professionals and students preparing to enter the job market,” said Dr. Xiang Guo, ITC department head. “It’s faster and more accessible than an undergraduate degree but still offers high-quality training.”
The program helps students build a strong foundation in areas, such as cybersecurity basics, network security, ethical hacking and digital forensics. Graduates will be equipped with knowledge about information system security and how to protect systems and information against cyber threats.
Flexible and practical
The certificate can be completed fully online. Students may also mix online and seated classes. Both formats include labs, simulations and industry tools. Students get hands-on practice they can apply right away in the workplace.
