FCTL Opportunities in December

December 1, 2025 by Hailey J. Maples

The end of the semester is approaching quickly – but that doesn’t mean your academic opportunities end with it. As finals week approaches and your break begins shortly after, consider submitting for these FCTL programs during your time off from classes this December.

Teaching and Learning Grant

Every academic year, the FCTL offers funding opportunities for faculty who are interested in pursuing a scholarly project investigating or supporting teaching and learning practices. These grants are referred to as Teaching and Learning Grants, and each grant may carry an award of up to $3,000. Two grants types are currently being offered: the FCTL Teaching and Learning Grant (open to all types of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects), and the FCTL Education Abroad Grant (open to projects specifically focusing on the impact of education abroad learning environments on student learning outcomes). If you’re looking for funding for a scholarly project, let the FCTL assist you in your academic mission – apply for a teaching and learning grant now!

Learn more about the grants, view the Step-by-Step application guide, or read the blog spotlight article with two of last year’s recipients.

All grant proposals are due February 1, 2026.

Teaching Excellence Award

Every academic year, the FCTL awards up to five faculty members with a Teaching Excellence Award to recognize their outstanding teaching practices and exemplary dedication to student success. Recipients of this award will receive a $1,000 stipend (less payroll taxes). If you’ve employed innovative teaching techniques, built a supportive classroom community, or utilized some other aspects of teaching and learning practices to inspire your students and facilitate impactful learning, the FCTL invites you to submit an application to be recognized! Peer-nominations for the award this year are now closed, but faculty interested in applying for the award themselves are able to submit an application packet until February 1, 2026.

Read the blog spotlight article with last year’s winner, or learn more about the Teaching Excellence Award and start your application now.

All applications for this award are due February 1, 2026.

Spring Scholarship Summit

Presenters and attendees discuss at the 2024 Spring Scholarship Summit

The Spring Scholarship Summit is one of the FCTL’s annual events highlighting the scholarly work of faculty in our campus community. This event is an open house poster presentation event, making it the perfect fit for busy faculty who would like to engage with our academic community in their limited spare time. If you’re looking for a relaxed environment to connect with faculty across all disciplines, share your projects, inquiries, or accomplishments, and learn about what other faculty are up to in their academic pursuits, the Spring Scholarship Summit is a can’t-miss event.

The FCTL invites all faculty to submit poster proposals to present at the event this year, which is being held on April 15, 2026, from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. Submitting a poster proposal for this event is quick and painless; all we need to consider you for a presentation spot is just a few sentences explaining who you are and what you would like to share with faculty. Your presentation topic can be as broad or specific as you would like, and we encourage creativity.

Learn more about the Spring Scholarship Summit and browse past presentations, or sign-up now to attend or present.

Poster proposals for this event are due March 1st, 2026.
