Continuing our Showcase Spotlight today is a faculty member from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry: Dr. Gautam Bhattacharyya!

Dr. Gautam Bhattacharyya, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, will be presenting at the Showcase this fall during the first session of simultaneous faculty presentations. In this presentation, Dr. Bhattacharyya will be sharing a personal look into an experience that most faculty members encounter at some point in their teaching careers: student evaluations that feel especially brutal. Despite best practices, it’s common for instructors to encounter student criticism—criticism that is rarely addressed and even rarer discussed amongst other instructors. This presentation opens the door to conversation around this occurrence by sharing the learning and adjustment process undertaken by Dr. Bhattacharyya in response to his experience with this situation, highlighting acceptance, constructive conversations, and planning in accordance with feedback. Attendees to this presentation will hear important perspectives and conversations surrounding vulnerability and growth, traits that benefit all educators in their development, teaching expertise, and support of students. To find the sign-up within My Learning Connection, click the link below and navigate to the “Learning and Development” card in My Missouri State. Select “My Learning Connection” from the links, and type “Showcase” into the search box in the top right of the screen.
