It’s important to get enough sleep, sleep helps keep your mind and body healthy. Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of good quality sleep each night. It is also important to get good quality sleep on a regular schedule so you feel rested when you wake up. Along with nutrition and exercise, good sleep is an important aspect of health. Here are ten reasons why good sleep is important:

– Poor sleep is linked to higher body weight, weight gain, and short sleep duration is one of the strongest risk factors for obesity.

– Good sleepers tend to eat fewer calories. Sleep deprived individuals have bigger appetites and tend to eat more calories. Sleep deprivation disrupts the daily fluctuations in appetite hormones and is believed to cause poor appetite regulation.

– Good sleep can improve concentration and productivity. Sleep is important for brain function, such as cognition, productivity, and performance.

– Good sleep can maximize performance.

– Poor sleepers have a greater risk of heart disease and stroke.

– Sleep affects glucose metabolism and type 2 diabetes risk. Poor sleep habits are strongly linked to adverse effects on blood sugar.

– Poor sleep is linked to depression.

– Sleep improves immune function. Even a small loss of sleep can impair immune function.

– Poor sleep is linked to increased inflammation.

– Sleep affects emotions and social interactions.
