Finding her place in hospitality
Student ambassador Samm Hill-Prock discovered HRA after trying out a different major. She had a strong sense that hospitality was a great fit for her interests, which eventually led her to a position as the suites and catering administrator for Hammons Field.
Samm is now looking forward to graduating; she shared a bit about her experience in the department.
What she loves about the program: “That we have smaller class sizes and that the faculty and staff know you by name– whether you’re in their class or not. They all seem to genuinely care about their students and their well-being.”
Why it feels like home: “Studying hospitality just really clicked with me and felt right. I’ve made great friends within the department through classes and through being a part of Eta Sigma Delta, HLOT and student ambassadors. I’m really going to miss that once I graduate.”
Community engagement, memorable experiences
In addition to the organizations she mentioned, Samm found fulfillment through extensive involvement in Missouri State and the Springfield community. Just a few of the organizations and honors she’s been part of:
- Isabel’s House
- Disabled American Veterans
- Convoy of Hope
- American Hotel and Lodging Educational Foundation Scholarship
- Dean’s List
- Golden Key Honors Society
- National Society of Collegiate Scholars
