Hospitality Leadership

Inman speaks to HSP 315

Hospitality students meet with industry professional

Application in the classroom is something Dr. Dan Crafts strives for.

April 25, 2018 by Tori York

Meeting industry professionals is something that all students would like to do. Students learn from people who have sat where they are sitting and have come out on the other side, victorious.

Brian Inman, the general manager at the Double Tree Hotel in Springfield, spoke to Dr. Dan Crafts’ HSP 315 class.

HSP 315 is an advanced lodging class that analyzes current trends in lodging and learns about different views on the industry.

About the visit

Inman, a 1987 hospitality leadership alumnus, spoke about his role as a general manager.

Inman was named DoubleTree by Hilton General Manager of the Year in 2015. His property has received multiple CARE Awards from the Hilton Corporation.

He discussed general manager accountability. It isn’t just about ensuring the shift goes smoothly; It’s investor relations, attending functions and making sure the hotel is being the best it can be.

Crafts, associate professor of hospitality leadership, thought the best message Inman brought was organization culture. An effective, inclusive organizational culture shows top level leadership.

Thanks for visiting, Brian!
