Hospitality Leadership

Hospitality department offering new exploratory course for fall

Learn about entrepreneurship from the perspective of a business owner.

June 7, 2022 by Olivia C. Prost

Have you ever wondered if you had what it takes to be a leader in the hospitality industry, but didn’t want to fully commit?

If you answered yes, no matter your major, then you should register for the newly added fall 2022 course HSP 300: Innovation in Action – A Guidebook to Hospitality Entrepreneurship!

An industry crash course

Innovation in Action – A Guidebook to Hospitality Entrepreneurship will be led by Matt Bekebrede, instructor in the MSU hospitality leadership department. In addition to having teaching experience, he has also been a business owner and operator for the past fifteen years.

His goal is to give students of any major an opportunity to explore entrepreneurship in hospitality with low commitment, low cost, and a small course load.

“Innovation in Action will be a 1 credit hour, discussion-based course,” Bekebrede said. “I hope students can learn from my experience as a business owner to make their own decision on if they think they can see themselves doing the same thing.”

The class will have one section for the fall 2022 semester and is scheduled to be in-person on Wednesdays from 10:10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

There are no prerequisites, and students of any major are encouraged to register for the class.
