Wrap Networks Overview
A wrap network extends in-network coverage when you’re outside your primary coverage area, ensuring access to care no matter where you are. It’s part of the University’s Medical insurance plan, offering a broader network of providers, even when traveling or living outside your primary service area.
Key Wrap Networks:
- Healthlink: 800-624-5356, healthlink.com
- Freedom Network Select: phpkc.com
- FirstHealth: 800-226-5116, firsthealth.com
Use these sites to search for participating providers by facility, name, or zip code.
Dos and Don’ts:
Do:
- Persons living in the Mercy Southwest Missouri Network area: Call Med-pay for prior authorization to utilize wrap network providers.
- A Covered person seeking services from a Wrap or Non-Network provider when services are available in-network must have the Network provider submit a referral to the Utilization Review Coordinator to determine if the services will be covered and the approved time period.
- Referral for Mercy Tertiary Network Providers: If seeking care from a Mercy Tertiary Network Provider outside Southwest Missouri, a referral is required for extended network coverage.
- See the plan document for further plan information, limitations, and exceptions.
- Persons living outside the Mercy Southwest Missouri network region should utilize wrap network providers to receive PPO-level benefits. Network authorization is not required if the out-of-service area home address is on file with Med-pay.
Don’t:
- Don’t Just Ask If a Provider “Takes Your Insurance”: Providers may accept Med-pay but not be part of your wrap network. Always confirm if they participate in the specific wrap network (Healthlink, Freedom Network Select, or FirstHealth).
For more details on plan limitations and exceptions, check the plan document. Understanding how to use the wrap network effectively ensures access to quality care wherever you are.
