A Smarter Way to Save for Missourians with Disabilities
Did you know there’s a special savings program that allows individuals with disabilities to save for the future—without affecting important benefits like SSI or Medicaid? It’s called MOABLE (Missouri’s Achieving a Better Life Experience program), and it’s designed to provide financial freedom and peace of mind.
🌟 What Is MOABLE?
MOABLE is a tax-advantaged savings and investment account for individuals with disabilities and their families. It allows you to save for qualified expenses such as housing, education, employment support, assistive technology, medical needs, and more—without risking eligibility for public benefits.
đź’ˇ Key Benefits:
- Save up to $19,000 per year (more if you’re working).
- The first $100,000 saved doesn’t count toward SSI asset limits.
- Earnings grow tax-free and withdrawals are tax-free when used for qualified disability expenses.
- Friends and family can contribute.
- No penalty for withdrawals when used for qualified expenses.
đź’Ľ Save Easily Through Payroll Direct Deposit
If you’re employed, contributing to your MOABLE account is simple with direct deposit from your paycheck. Here’s how:
- Log in to your MOABLE/STABLE account and click on “Direct Deposit” from the Total Balance tile or navigate to Transfers > Direct Deposit.
- Retrieve your unique deposit details, including the routing and account numbers.
- Use those details to complete payroll direct deposit forms.
Your contributions will be automatically sent to your MOABLE account every pay period—no extra steps needed!
✅ Who’s Eligible?
You’re eligible to open a MOABLE account if:
- Your disability began before age 26, and
- You receive SSI or SSDI, or have a condition listed on the SSA’s compassionate allowance list.
