September is National Preparedness Month, a timely reminder to enhance your personal safety and emergency readiness. Missouri State University offers several opportunities this fall to help you stay informed, trained, and prepared.
🥋 Self-Defense Tactics for Women
MSU is offering a free self-defense class designed to equip women with practical skills for staying safe. This interactive class combines self-awareness training with real-life scenarios from our area. Participants will learn and practice:
- Escaping from a larger, stronger individual
- Striking and targeting high-impact areas
- Movement and defense strategies from the ground

🚨 Required Preparing for Emergencies Course
As part of National Preparedness Month, all MSU employees must complete the Preparing for Emergencies course (Parts 1 & 2) by September 30, 2025.
This training ensures you are ready to respond effectively to emergencies on campus or at work. Don’t wait—complete the course today and stay prepared!

Missouri State University is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, and staff. Here are some key safety resources available:
- Missouri State Alert: Stay informed during emergencies by signing up for the university’s mass notification system.
- Safe Walk Program: Request a campus safety specialist to escort you within the main campus boundaries 24/7 by calling 417-836-5509.
- Blue Light Telephones: Located across campus, these phones connect you directly to campus safety in case of an emergency.
- Building Unlock Procedures: Contact the appropriate office to unlock building entry doors when needed.
- Crime Reporting and Prevention: Learn about crime data, safety alerts, and how to report incidents.
